Most owners are very pleased with this mobility scooter.  A small sampling of the comments is  “love it “, “exceeded expectations”, “outstanding product for the price.”, “excellent range and is easy to use”,  and “I am sorry I waited so long to get one”.

Many owners say that this scooter has changed their lives, allowing them to do things they hadn’t been able to do in a long while. One owner says it all, ““just love the power it has and the battery just lasts and lasts. My Go Go turns on a dime and gives nine cents change. I now can go to the mall, and to car shows, flea markets, and much more with confidence that I’m not going to get stranded, and most of all I don’t have that feeling of guilt when my wife or grandson unload and assemble my Go Go because the assembly units are so light and it assembles so fast and easy. Also I can’t believe how comfortable the seat and leg room is for such a compact but sturdy scooter”.

Many owners spoke of how easy this mobility scooter is to disassemble quickly and take along in the trunk of even a small car like a Toyota Echo. They say this scooter for seniors is light and most are able to disassemble it and place it in the car by themselves.

This truly is a travel scooter.  One owner says, “I like the fact that I can take it in the trunk of my car or take it with me on an airplane”. Other owners also spoke of taking their scooters on planes with one saying that it was light enough to travel on airplanes, and another calling it “the easiest way to get though airports, especially when connections between flights are made in limited time”.  He also says this scooter fits in the under bus luggage compartment on full size tour buses.  Yet another owner took his Go-Go Elite on a cruise ship where he says, “the scooter is a hit” and he is recommending it to others.

One note of caution: One owner made the mistake of running his battery completely down before re-charging it the first time, thinking that doing so would not create a bad ‘memory’ and allow it to fully charge better, however he ruined his battery that way. It wouldn’t charge again as it is intended to be plugged in whenever it is not in use.

And another caution: Watch the traction “if front tire is wet and you enter a room that has anything except rugs you will slide”, and “the hard-rubber tires do not perform well on grassy slopes or loose gravel”.  Also, one owner says, “In thick grass, it tends to be unstable.”

One owner of the 85 who gave reviews had electrical problems with his scooter.  He described it as, “The scooter from the beginning, would surge, stop only after a few feet, may or may not start again after turning the key on and off. Maybe run for ten minutes and then just quit. It would quit if going over a small bump. Sometimes not start at all for a day or two“.  He says his neighbour has the same scooter and the same problem, and said it frequently left him stranded in the middle of a corridor when he took it with him on a cruise ship.

Though not weaknesses in the scooter, owners do have a few things they would have liked to have seen on this scooter. A number expressed a desire for a rear view mirror, a headlight, a cane holder and a larger basket. Owners of this mobility scooter have put it through some pretty heavy use, with one using it for work and driving 10-15 miles per day, and another putting on about 2500 miles a year on it on very rough sidewalks and rough roads.  In spite of that kind of usage, these scooters seem to hold up for about 6 or 7 years.  Owners love the comfort and stability, the easy manoeuvrability, the dynamic brake system, the power, and the long battery charge that this scooter holds. One owner says,“It travels well in the back of our sedan and provides enough mobility when I need it.”  Even though owners say it is easy to disassemble, one owner “purchased a lift that goes in the trunk of my car that transports my scooter when I need its use at grocery stores, restaurants and other retail stores.”.

Several owners commented positively on the headlight, with one owner saying “I like that this model came with a head lamp as some of the other travel-type scooters did not offer this amenity.”. Another described this scooter as “light weight and has a good front light “.

One owner doesn’t like the back-up sound that the scooter makes as she feels that it could wake up others in the house in the early morning hours. She is, however, otherwise very happy with this scooter.

This mobility scooter got only one negative review. That owner said “poor electrical system, short battery life, slow, weak motor… When inclined, the electrical system cuts off and cannot be restored until it sits a while. In addition, the speed gear is difficult. It starts slow and increases speed very slowly making it impossible to go up inclines or cross a street quickly… flimsy and can tip over in a heartbeat.”.  His experience is an isolated one and not typical based on the other owners reviews.  None of the other owners mentioned any problems with inclines or with the electrical system. In fact, a number of them referred to the battery as “long lasting” and the motor as “powerful”.  We can see, however, how one might feel that any 3 wheel model might not be quite as stable as a 4 wheel model.

Don’t mistake this one for a light weight travel scooter. The Sunrunner 4 Wheel Scooter is for heavier duty local driving as well as indoor use. Owners rate this mobility scooter as a 4.5/5.  Comments were “nice scooter”, “works great for the price”, and “great little scooter”. One owner has had one for a year and has just bought another one of the same model for his wife.  Another says “I have gotten both the Sunrunner 3 and 4. Both have been excellent. If you need a scooter Shoprider is the best I have found. For outdoor use they are the top. Indoor they are also great to use”.

Owners find the battery easy to recharge but say the directions for hooking up the battery charger could be better. One owner had a problem when he first plugged in his battery to charge it. He reports that after taking the scooter apart, with no directions and therefore some difficulty, he was able to determine that the positive and negative cables were disengaged. He connected them and his charger now works. Another owner reports his scooter’s charger stopped working after seven months.

Adjustability and Functionality

This mobility scooter has quite aq good amount of adjustable features. The deluxe captain’s seat slides forward or back, and also swivels, and the back fold down. The arm rests are adjustable and flip back, and the tiller is adjustable. Owners find the seat comfortable. One owner says she find it more versatile than a “chair”. Owners like the stability of the four wheels, and the small area needed to turn around. They also like that, in most cases, the unit was operational in a few minutes with minimal assembly required. The only complaint owners had was a lack of clear instructions on assembly and on charging the battery.

None on the owners who reviewed this scooter mentioned portability. Although the back of the seat folds flat, this unit can’t be disassembled. As well, it is a fairly heavy unit, weighting in at 180 lbs. It would appear that one would need to install a lift in one’s vehicle in order to easily transport this scooter, if one wished to do so. Since this scooter is designed for local travel, there shouldn’t be much need to transport it in a vehicle.

We have included the Image Gt Mid Wheel Drive Power Wheelchair With Captains Seat (2800GTBL-RCL) in this review for the benefit of those who need just a little more help with mobility than the scooters give.  There are many other models on the market but it is difficult to find owner reviews on many of them.

We were able to locate a few reviews by owners of this power wheelchair.  Owners give it an overall rating of 4.6/5, calling it “excellent value”, “good well built”, “excellent quality at a third of the price”, and saying ““for the price it seems good”, and “exceeds my want for a good power wheel chair”.

Power Source:

A big plus to this power wheelchair is that it has an onboard battery charger and a cord.  This makes it easy to plug it in to a wall socket to recharge wherever you go. Lugging around a separate charging unit doesn’t even come into the picture. One owner would have preferred that the charging plug be located to the side rather than under on the housing under the chair, but it wasn’t a big issue for her.

Speed:

About 6-7 mph initially, but slows down to about 5-6 mph after about a minute at full speed.  This is a pretty good speed for a chair.  You can really zip around in this beauty.

Length of charge:

The owner who reviewed this power wheelchair had never gone for more than a 2 mile run and was surprised that his chair still showed a full charge after that. This power wheelchair would appear to hold it’s charge well. Though we don’t know the exact length of time that it will go, with an onboard charger there would never be a problem.

Adjustability and Functionality:

This power wheelchair has more features than many others, making for maximum comfort level for the rider, as well as increased functionality in tight spots. The arms are fully adjustable for height and distance apart, and also tilt up to full vertical when necessary. The seat and seat back are also fully adjustable for height and tilt. The seat can rotate for ease getting in and out, or for an easy fit at the dinner table if there’s no room for the foot rest. The foot rest is spring loaded.  A person who can’t bend down to lower it and raise their legs up to it would need a little help in placing their feet on it.  It is ideal though for someone who still has some flexibility.

A number of owners commented on the ease of use and the ability to turn in small radius, though one commented on the steering being “very delicate control” and didn’t like the plastic shroud versus metal. Another owner found going up ramps could cause the drive wheels to lose their traction when the front casters leave the horizontal plane. According to him though, a bit of a running start solves that problem, so it isn’t a big issue.
